What is it?

The EICAR test file is designed for users and administrators who want
to check the proper operation of their anti-virus software without
using actual viruses. This Virus Test File called eicar.com, is a
1-line text file that should get reported as virus infected if your
anti-virus system is properly installed. If your software does not
report back that the file is virus infected, you should update your
anti-virus software or change your AV software program.
